Brands & Gear We Look For

Brand matters, but it is not the only thing we look at. Condition, seasonality, demand, and whether the item fits outdoor use all help determine what we accept.

Outdoor Brands

These are examples of brands we commonly look for in apparel, packs, camping gear, footwear, and accessories.

Patagonia • Arc'teryx • The North Face • Outdoor Research • Mountain Hardwear • Marmot • Rab • Cotopaxi • Fjällräven • Prana • KÜHL • Smartwool • Icebreaker • Darn Tough • Osprey • Gregory • Deuter • MSR • Big Agnes • Nemo • Sea to Summit • Black Diamond • Chaco • Keen • Salomon • Altra • Hoka • La Sportiva • Scarpa

Other Categories We May Consider

Some items may not come from traditional outdoor brands but still fit how people live, work, train, and recreate in Northwest Arkansas.

  • • Quality workwear and durable outdoor clothing
  • • Technical activewear, leggings, and yoga apparel
  • • Trail running and training apparel
  • • Camp kitchen gear and camp furniture
  • • Travel bags, duffels, and everyday adventure packs
  • • Select complete bikes and cycling accessories
  • • Select climbing shoes, chalk bags, helmets, and accessories

Not Sure? Bring It In.

This list is a starting point, not a hard rulebook. Early on, we expect to learn what the local market wants and may accept quality items outside this list.

The quick test:

If it is clean, functional, fairly current, useful outside, and something someone would be excited to buy used, it is worth asking about.

A Note On Safety Gear

Some categories require extra caution. Used climbing ropes, worn harnesses, damaged helmets, expired safety gear, or anything supporting body weight may not be accepted unless it is new, unused, and clearly safe for resale. Final acceptance is always based on condition, safety, and our ability to confidently resell the item.

Frequently Asked Questions

A quick guide to how consignment works at Next Gear Outdoors.

What is consignment?

Consignment means we sell your gear on your behalf. You bring in quality outdoor gear you are no longer using, we review it, price it, display it, and handle the sales process. Once the item sells, you receive your share as either cash payout or store credit.

How and when can I consign my items?

Once intake is open, you can bring accepted gear to Next Gear Outdoors during posted consignment intake hours. Our team will inspect items for condition, quality, seasonality, and current demand before accepting them for the sales floor.

We recommend checking current intake updates before bringing gear in, especially for large items, seasonal gear, or higher volume drop offs.

What are your consignment rates, pricing, and discounts?

Consignors receive 50% of the final selling price when paid in cash or 55% when choosing store credit.

Items are priced based on condition, brand, age, demand, and current retail value. Most items are priced below full retail so buyers get a strong value while consignors still receive a fair return.

Items may be discounted over time to keep inventory moving. Final discount schedules and payout timing will be clearly posted before intake begins.

What do you accept for consignment?

We accept quality outdoor gear, apparel, footwear, and accessories based on condition, seasonality, and demand.

  • Camping and backpacking gear
  • Hiking gear
  • Cycling and mountain biking gear
  • Paddling gear
  • Climbing gear
  • Outdoor apparel
  • Outdoor footwear
  • Packs, bags, and accessories

Items should be clean, functional, and ready for the next owner.

What do you not accept for consignment?

We generally do not accept items that are unsafe, heavily worn, damaged, dirty, outdated, or outside our outdoor gear focus.

  • Broken or nonfunctional gear
  • Items with strong odors, dirt, mold, or pet hair
  • Used climbing ropes, harnesses, or other safety critical climbing gear
  • Damaged or expired helmets
  • Large exercise equipment
  • General team sports equipment
  • Department store gear or low demand items
  • Items with missing parts or major repairs needed

We may decline any item based on safety, condition, demand, or available space.

Do you buy items outright for cash?

Our primary model is consignment, not same day cash buying. Consignment can take longer than selling outright, but it often gives gear owners a better return than an immediate cash offer.

If we choose to buy select items outright in the future, those details will be listed separately.

When do I get paid?

Cash payouts are sent by ACH direct deposit after sold items are processed and payout requirements are met. Store credit is added to your consignor account after your item sells.

Final payout timing, minimum payout amounts, and any processing fees will be listed in the consignment agreement before intake begins.

What happens if my item does not sell?

Items that do not sell within the consignment period may be discounted, moved into clearance, picked up by the consignor, or donated depending on the terms agreed to at intake.

We will clearly communicate the process before your items are accepted.

What is your return policy for consigned items?

Return policy details may vary by item type and condition. Final return policies will be posted in store and online before opening.

Because consigned items are unique, buyers should inspect items carefully before purchase.
